The Model 1200 uses a rotary four-lug bolt that locks directly into a barrel extension, a proven design that provides solid lockup. The aluminum-alloy receiver has longitudinal anti-glare serrations along the top and a right-side ejection port. It features a cross-bolt safety.
The 28-inch plain (non-rib) Winchester Proof Steel barrel is chambered for 2-3/4-inch shells and wears a small front bead for fast alignment. A factory WinChoke interchangeable, flush screw-in choke tube with a knurled rim is installed.
Furniture includes a walnut buttstock and matching walnut slide/forend with checkering and a pistol-grip profile. A bright silver, checkered metal buttplate with the circular "Winchester Repeating Arms" logo and a knurled magazine cap complete the classic setup. Length of pull measures 14.0 inches.
The tubular magazine holds 4+1 rounds. Factory literature notes a five-round total when the magazine plug is removed. Markings include "WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL," "MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.," and "WINCHOKE."
