Built around a compact frame, this Taurus 856 is configured for straightforward use with fixed sights and a short, stated 2-inch barrel. The front sight is a blade on the barrel rib, and the rear sight is a fixed notch milled into the topstrap.
The revolver uses a DA/SA action with an exposed spurred hammer and a transfer-bar safety. It has a swing-out, fluted cylinder and an ejector rod with a knurled tip, housed under an under-barrel shroud with an elongated cutout that exposes the rod.
The grip is a one-piece wraparound synthetic/rubber-style design with molded texturing and the Taurus bull logo. The gun shows visible model marking "856" on the frame, and the visible serial number is L064317.
