The M1911 A1 - FS follows the Government-pattern 1911 format with a 5-inch barrel, barrel bushing, and recoil spring plug, using the short-recoil, tilting-barrel operating system. It is a single-action pistol with an 8+1 capacity using a standard single-stack magazine.
Construction is all steel with a matte dark gray/black finish on the frame and slide. The slide has rear-only vertical serrations for a traditional look and feel, and the pistol is fitted with checkered reddish-brown wood grip panels.
Sight setup is GI-style and fixed, pairing a small blade front with a square-notch rear. Markings include the Rock Island Armory crest/logo on the slide and "M1911 A1 - FS" on the frame.
Controls include a standard magazine release, a thumb safety, and a grip safety, with a spur hammer in keeping with the A1 pattern. The included magazine has witness holes numbered 2–8.
