The M&P15-22P is a dedicated .22 LR AR-pattern pistol using a simple blowback action and proprietary S&W polymer magazines. The polymer upper and lower receivers are marked "MODEL M&P15-22P CALIBER 22 LR," and the controls include a bolt catch and a 2-position safety clearly marked SAFE/FIRE.
The 8-inch carbon steel barrel is threaded and fitted with an A2-style birdcage flash suppressor. Rifling has a 1:15 twist rate appropriate for common .22 LR loads.
The slim S&W polymer M-LOK handguard provides functional M-LOK slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions, with other slots serving as cooling vents. A full-length 1913 Picatinny rail runs across the receiver and handguard for mounting sights or optics as desired.
The SB Tactical stabilizing brace features a hook-and-loop forearm strap and an integrated QD sling socket. A Magpul MOE-style pistol grip is installed. The pistol uses a rear charging handle, includes an integral shell deflector, and omits both a forward assist and an ejection port dust cover.
