The BDM operates on a short-recoil, locked-breech, hammer-fired system and offers a unique trigger setup: traditional DA/SA along with a selectable DAO mode controlled by a slide-mounted selector. Ambidextrous frame-mounted levers with a red index dot and a standard left-side magazine release support familiar handling.
Built on a steel frame with a steel slide, the pistol wears a uniform matte blued finish. Wraparound black synthetic grips feature molded checkering and a Browning buckmark inset for a secure grasp. Rear slide serrations aid manipulation, and a lanyard hole at the rear of the grip base provides an additional retention point.
Sight regulation is straightforward with a low-profile front blade and a rear notch set in a dovetail that is drift-adjustable for windage. A left-side slide stop and the cleanly executed control layout contribute to practical use and maintenance.
Factory markings remain clear, with the right side of the slide reading "BDM 9mm LUGER — MADE IN U.S.A." and the left side marked "BROWNING ARMS COMPANY • MORGAN, UTAH • MONTREAL P.Q." The pistol is paired with two 10-round steel magazines and the original Browning case and manual, rounding out a well-documented 1990s production example.
