The Rhino 50 DS employs Chiappa's distinctive low-bore-axis system that indexes and fires from the 6 o'clock chamber. This configuration is a defining characteristic of the Rhino line and gives the revolver its unmistakable profile and handling feel.
The frame is machined from 7075-T6 aluminum alloy in a matte silver finish, while the barrel and cylinder are steel for strength in .357 Magnum. The cylinder is flat-sided with a hexagonal profile and holds six rounds.
The 5 inch barrel and underlug include three elongated lightening slots on each side and an integral lower accessory rail. Sighting is fast and precise with a fixed orange fiber-optic front and a fully adjustable green fiber-optic rear.
The action is double/single action. An external cocking lever serves as the visible hammer actuator, while the actual hammer is internal. The revolver wears a one-piece checkered wood grip with a Chiappa medallion.
Markings include Italian proof marks on the cylinder face, a Made in Italy legend, and a Chiappa Firearms, Dayton, OH import mark. The serial number is also roll-marked on the topstrap behind the rear sight.
