The GI Champion format combines a 4-inch Champion-length slide and barrel with a full Government-length frame. It uses a standard barrel bushing with a locked-breech tilting-barrel system, and the barrel is ramped and fully supported.
Controls follow the classic 1911 pattern: single-action, semi-automatic operation with a manual thumb safety and grip safety. It features a short, solid trigger and a spur hammer, along with an arched mainspring housing for a traditional GI feel. Capacity is 7+1 with the included 7-round magazines.
Sighting is straightforward and durable, with fixed 3-dot sights consisting of a white dot front and a two-dot rear. The slide has rear-only vertical serrations and a standard ejection port.
Grips are checkered hardwood double-diamond with recessed "U.S." medallions, complementing the GI theme. Manufacturing and markings include "Made in Brazil IMBEL," a frame rollmark "SPRINGFIELD INC., GENESEO IL USA," and a barrel hood marked "S.A. .45 AUTO." A WW-prefix serial is typical of Springfield’s GI line.
