This is a first-generation M&P40 full-size in .40 S&W with a striker-fired action and a no-thumb-safety configuration. The slide is stainless steel with a black Melonite (QPQ) finish, matched to a stainless steel barrel, and the frame is black polymer. Sights are fixed, dovetailed 3-dot (white) front and rear.
The slide is marked "CAUTION - CAPABLE OF FIRING WITH MAGAZINE REMOVED," indicating there is no magazine disconnect. It features a loaded-chamber viewport on the barrel hood, a left-side slide stop and takedown lever, and scalloped rear cocking serrations with no front serrations. The barrel hood is stamped "40 S&W."
An integral three-slot 1913-style accessory rail is molded into the dust cover for mounting compatible lights or accessories. The safety suite includes a hinged trigger with integrated trigger safety, a loaded chamber indicator, and a sear deactivation lever.
A Crimson Trace Laser Grip is installed as a backstrap-integrated unit, maintaining the M&P palm-swell ergonomics while adding a built-in laser aiming option. The pistol includes interchangeable S/M/L backstraps so the grip can be tailored to the shooter.
