Product Description

Winchester Model 1400 Ranger Deer Slug 12 Gauge Semi-Auto, 22 inch Smoothbore Slug Barrel, Rifle Sights (1987)

The Winchester Model 1400 Ranger Deer Slug is a purpose-built 12-gauge semi-automatic from 1987 featuring a 22 inch smoothbore barrel marked "DEER SLUG" and factory open rifle sights. It combines a Winchester Proof Steel barrel with an aluminum-alloy receiver and a hardwood stock, delivering the dedicated slug configuration produced in New Haven, Connecticut.

This Ranger-series variant uses a gas-operated action with right-side ejection and a rotating bolt. The tubular magazine has a 2+1 capacity and a knurled cap, and the shotgun is chambered for 2 3/4 inch shells. A cross-bolt safety, 14.0 inch length of pull, and factory Winchester hard buttplate round out the package. The smoothbore barrel and rifle sights provide a straightforward deer-slug setup direct from the factory.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Specific Condition Notes: There is rust on the barrel. The magazine plunger consistently pushes itself forward, causing the shotshell lifting lever to catch; as a result, the shotgun will not cycle, return to battery, or function.

    What’s Included

    • Winchester Model 1400 Ranger Deer Slug 12 Gauge semi-automatic shotgun

The 22 inch smoothbore barrel is factory-marked "DEER SLUG" and built from Winchester Proof Steel. It wears a blued finish and is paired with open rifle sights consisting of a ramped blade front and an elevator-adjustable rear, offering a clear sight picture for slug use.

The gas-operated action uses a rotating bolt with right-side ejection. A cross-bolt safety is positioned for straightforward operation, and the receiver is aluminum alloy with a black anodized-look finish.

Feeding is via a tubular magazine with a knurled cap and a 2+1 capacity. The chamber is cut for 2 3/4 inch shells, aligning with the Ranger Deer Slug configuration.

The hardwood stock and forend feature a walnut finish with pressed checkering and a straight comb. Length of pull is 14.0 inches, and the butt is capped with a factory Winchester hard buttplate.

Manufactured in New Haven, Connecticut, this Ranger-series Model 1400 brings together the smoothbore slug barrel and rifle sights in a dedicated deer-focused setup from Winchester Repeating Arms.
