The Winchester Model 1400 Ranger Deer Slug is a purpose-built 12-gauge semi-automatic from 1987 featuring a 22 inch smoothbore barrel marked "DEER SLUG" and factory open rifle sights. It combines a Winchester Proof Steel barrel with an aluminum-alloy receiver and a hardwood stock, delivering the dedicated slug configuration produced in New Haven, Connecticut.
This Ranger-series variant uses a gas-operated action with right-side ejection and a rotating bolt. The tubular magazine has a 2+1 capacity and a knurled cap, and the shotgun is chambered for 2 3/4 inch shells. A cross-bolt safety, 14.0 inch length of pull, and factory Winchester hard buttplate round out the package. The smoothbore barrel and rifle sights provide a straightforward deer-slug setup direct from the factory.
Condition
Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.
Specific Condition Notes: There is rust on the barrel. The magazine plunger consistently pushes itself forward, causing the shotshell lifting lever to catch; as a result, the shotgun will not cycle, return to battery, or function.
