The Third Model receiver features an integral dust-cover rail and a saddle ring on the left side, reflecting the period-correct configuration for carbine use. The action is the traditional Winchester toggle-link design with an external hammer and a standard-size lever loop.

Its 19-inch round carbine barrel is secured by two barrel bands. Sighting is straightforward and period-appropriate, with a front blade mounted on the front barrel band and a barrel-mounted rear sight with a sliding elevator, all in open iron sight format.
