This Series S configuration is chambered for 20-gauge 2 3/4-inch and 3-inch shells, with a 24-inch barrel set and a two-round capacity (one per barrel). The rifle-over-shotgun layout offers straightforward caliber selection via the hammer-top selector and a single-trigger operation.
The break-action uses a lever-operated release and features barrels joined at the breech, with the tubes remaining separate toward the front; there is a visible air gap at the muzzle with no band, rib, or soldered block tying them together, and the front sight base is affixed only to the rifle barrel.
Construction details include steel barrels with a blued finish and a color case-hardened steel receiver. The hardwood stock has a pistol-grip profile and an uncheckered splinter forend, with a 14.0-inch length of pull for a traditional fit.
Sight equipment consists of a front blade and a rear adjustable folding leaf with an elevator. The barrels are marked 'SAVAGE 24 SERIES S 20 GA. 2 3/4 & 3 INCH SHELLS' and 'SAVAGE ARMS WESTFIELD, MASS. U.S.A.' There is also a factory warning: 'DO NOT FIRE SHOTGUN BARREL WITH SCOPE ATTACHED.' There is a provision for tip-off scope mounting.
