The Scout Squad configuration pairs the classic M14-pattern operating system with a compact 18-inch barrel and a forward scout rail. The carbon steel barrel uses a 1:11 RH twist, and a perforated muzzle brake is fitted ahead of the gas-lock front sight base. The detachable M14-pattern magazine interface is included, and capacity is 10+1 with the supplied magazine.
Sight setup is purpose-built: a National Match 0.062 inch front blade on the gas-lock base and a knob-adjustable M14-pattern rear aperture. The forward 1913 Picatinny scout rail is a separate barrel-mounted unit that clamps to the barrel/gas system with screws and passes through a cutout in the polymer handguard.
The rifle retains a traditional look and handling with its walnut straight-comb stock and factory sling swivels. The two-stage trigger supports precise control, while the short-stroke gas piston with rotating bolt delivers the familiar M1A operating characteristics. Length of pull measures 13.25 inches.
Markings and details align with factory configuration: the receiver heel is marked "US RIFLE M1A – SPRINGFIELD ARMORY," the barrel is stamped ".308" forward of the gas cylinder, and internal part drawing number 7790186-SA is observed. Finish is parkerized throughout, and the rifle is made in the United States.
