Product Description

Winchester Model 1903 Standard Grade .22 Win Auto Semi-Auto Rifle, Takedown, 20-inch Barrel (1909)

This Winchester Model 1903 Standard Grade is an early-production example from 1909 and the first commercial semi-automatic rifle offered by Winchester. Designed by T.C. Johnson with a balanced-blowback system, it is chambered for the proprietary .22 Winchester Automatic cartridge. It features a 20-inch round barrel, takedown construction, a tubular magazine in the buttstock, and matching serial numbers on the receiver and trigger guard.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Fair condition, showing extensive signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Fair - Generally clean, some residue or smudges, slight corrosion.

Bore Rifling: Fair Rifling - Worn rifling, slight loss of definition.

Specific Condition Notes: The original blued finish has turned to a grey-brown patina. There is minor surface pitting in spots on the receiver and barrel. The walnut stock and fore-end show various handling marks, dings, and scratches.

    What's Included

    • Winchester Model 1903 Standard Grade rifle chambered in .22 Winchester Automatic
    • Removable inner magazine tube

The Model 1903 introduced Winchester's first commercial semi-automatic rifle, engineered by T.C. Johnson with a balanced-blowback action. This example dates to 1909 and remains in its Standard Grade configuration with uncheckered, straight-grip walnut furniture and a steel buttplate.

It is chambered for the .22 Winchester Automatic cartridge, which is proprietary and not interchangeable with other .22 rimfire rounds. Feeding is from a tubular magazine housed in the buttstock with a right-side loading port and a removable inner tube accessed through the buttplate, providing a 10+1 capacity.

The rifle uses a takedown system secured by a captive, ratcheting fore-end screw for convenient disassembly. It has a 20-inch round steel barrel and blued steel receiver, paired with iron sights: a front blade and a barrel-mounted open rear sight with elevator.

Approximately 126,000 Model 1903 rifles were produced. This rifle also shows matching serial numbers on the receiver and trigger guard, aligning with its period Winchester configuration and features.
