The VP9 is a striker-fired, recoil-operated locked-breech design in a full-size format, offering ambidextrous slide stop levers and an ambidextrous paddle-style magazine release. It incorporates a trigger safety, an extractor-based loaded chamber indicator, and a rear striker status indicator.
Its 4.09 in cold hammer-forged barrel features polygonal rifling, and the black slide wears front and rear serrations plus rear charging supports. The slide is a non-optics-cut configuration.
Ergonomics include a textured polymer frame, interchangeable backstraps and side panels, and a finger-groove frontstrap. Dovetailed sights consist of a green-dot front post and a square-notch rear. A 4-slot MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail on the dust cover supports accessory mounting. Standard capacity is 17+1.
