The PT 845 uses a DA/SA system with Taurus "Strike Two" re-strike capability, giving a second pull on a recalcitrant primer without cycling the slide. An external spurred hammer provides clear status at a glance. Safety features include a frame-mounted safety/decocker and a firing pin block, plus the Taurus Security System keyed lock.
Controls are ambidextrous, including the safety/decocker and the slide stop, and the design incorporates dual takedown levers. The slide is steel with front and rear serrations for assured manipulation, while the polymer frame keeps weight manageable.
The pistol is equipped with fixed 3-dot sights: a dovetailed single-dot front blade and a dovetailed two-dot square-notch rear. An integral multi-slot Picatinny-style accessory rail on the dust cover supports common lights or lasers.
