The Model 442-2 follows the Centennial enclosed-hammer J-Frame pattern, operating in double-action-only with an enclosed hammer. It uses a five-shot fluted cylinder and a knurled-tip ejector rod with a short underlug/ejector-rod shroud. The revolver is chambered for .38 Special +P.
Construction pairs an aluminum alloy frame with a matte black anodized finish to carbon steel barrel and cylinder finished in matte black. Factory markings include the right sideplate laser-etched S&W Trade Mark logo, the "Airweight" script on the frame, and the Springfield, MA S&W U.S.A. frame address.
Sights are fixed, with an integral serrated ramp front sight and a fixed rear topstrap groove. The revolver is fitted with black checkered synthetic boot-style grips. The hammer is fully enclosed for DAO operation.
This micro-size Airweight has a 1.875 inch barrel and a five-round capacity. It shows serial number DCU7368 on the butt and in the frame's crane recess, and the yoke is marked with assembly number "789." Made in the USA.
