This Plainfield Machine Co. M1 Carbine is a U.S.-made, commercial-production example from the 1967–1970 period, marked with Dunellen, N.J. receiver rollmarks. It pairs the classic M1 platform with mixed finishes (gloss blued receiver; matte gray parkerized/phosphate barrel and front sight), a hardwood low-wood stock, and a ventilated steel top handguard. Produced by Plainfield Machine Co. in Dunellen, New Jersey, this carbine represents commercial M1 Carbine manufacture from 1967–1970. The receiver rollmarks confirm Plainfield production, and the rifle accepts standard M1 Carbine pattern detachable magazines.
It retains the platform’s proven operating system with a semi-automatic, gas-operated short-stroke piston and rotating bolt. The 18 in threaded barrel is paired with the early narrow barrel band configuration that does not include a bayonet lug.
The hardwood stock is the low-wood pattern with a commercial rectangular through-slot in the butt and a buttplate, complemented by a ventilated steel top handguard. It does not have the GI-style left-side oval sling/oiler cut or oiler recess. Metal surfaces show mixed finishes: the receiver and ventilated steel handguard are blued, while the barrel and front sight are matte gray parkerized/phosphate. The length of pull measures 13.5 in for a familiar M1 Carbine fit.
Sighting is via iron sights: a protected post up front and an adjustable aperture at the rear. Chambered in .30 Carbine with a 10+1 capacity, this example maintains the quick-handling feel and straightforward manual of arms that define the M1 platform.
