This J.C. Higgins 583.2 Model 10 is a High Standard-made, bolt-action repeating 16-gauge marked for Sears, Roebuck and Co. It features a 26" steel barrel with a fixed Modified choke, a large top ejection port, an underside loading port, and an under-barrel tubular magazine rated 4+1. The bore is clean with a mirror finish, and a ventilated recoil pad has been installed. Barrel and receiver are blued, with the barrel marked "PROOF TESTED" and chambered for 2 3/4".

Receiver roll marking reads "J.C. HIGGINS - MODEL 583.2 - SEARS, ROEBUCK AND CO." Sears vendor code 583 denotes High Standard manufacture, and the 583.2 designation identifies the 16-gauge Model 10 variant. The barrel is marked "16 GA. MOD. - 2 3/4 CHAMBER." and "PROOF TESTED."
This is a bolt-action repeating shotgun with top ejection and an under-barrel tubular magazine loaded via the oval port on the underside. Capacity is stated at 4+1. Both barrel and receiver are steel with a blued finish, and the country of origin is the United States.
