The Sporter Varmint configuration centers on a 26 inch medium-heavy varmint-contour barrel in blued steel with a crowned muzzle. It is set up without iron sights, and the receiver is drilled and tapped for mounting an optic of your choice.
This rifle reflects the late-1980s push-feed Model 70 production. It uses a bolt-action system with a three-position wing safety and an engine-turned (jeweled) bolt body. Feeding is from an internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate, with a stated capacity of 5+1 in .223 Remington.
The stock is walnut with a gloss finish and right-hand Monte Carlo cheekpiece. It includes cut checkering, a black spacer, and a rubber recoil pad; the forend is continuous walnut with no contrasting tip. Sling swivel studs are installed, and the length of pull measures 13.5 inches.
Manufactured by Winchester Repeating Arms in New Haven, Connecticut under U.S. Repeating Arms Co., this rifle carries proper factory markings. The barrel is rollmarked: WINCHESTER MODEL 70 SPORTER VARMINT 223 REM. MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.
