Product Description

Smith & Wesson Model 58 .41 Military & Police, 4-inch Heavy Barrel, Polished Blue, 1970 N-Frame DA/SA — Target Trigger, Extra Target Hammer, Matching Box

This 1970 Smith & Wesson Model 58 .41 Military & Police is the fixed-sight, 4-inch heavy-barrel N-frame service revolver built specifically around the .41 Rem. Mag. cartridge. It features an early N-prefix serial range from the first year of N-frame N-serials and comes with a factory blue box bearing a matching end label. A wide target-style trigger has been installed.

The revolver currently wears the standard service hammer with a slim, tapered spur; a separate .500-inch-wide target hammer is included.

    Condition

Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.

Bore Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.

Bore Rifling: Good Rifling - Intact, well-defined lands and grooves.

Specific Condition Notes: The revolver presents scratches and blemishes with visible finish wear. There are a few very small, isolated spots of pitting. The action cycles smoothly, and lockup is tight.

    What’s Included

    • Smith & Wesson factory blue box with matching end label
    • Smith & Wesson .41 Military & Police Model 58 instruction sheet
    • Original trigger (not installed) and separate .500-inch-wide target hammer (not installed)

Developed for law-enforcement use and produced from 1964 into the late 1970s, the Model 58 was offered only in a 4-inch heavy-barrel configuration with fixed sights, in blue or nickel. This example dates to 1970 and falls into the early N-prefix serial range, aligning with the first year of N-frame N-serials.

Built on the robust N-frame with a square-butt grip profile, this revolver uses a carbon-steel frame finished in polished blue. It has a six-shot fluted cylinder, DA/SA operation, a knurled ejector-rod tip, and the standard checkered cylinder-release latch. Stocks are checkered walnut Magna grips with S&W medallions.

The fixed-sight system pairs a top-strap rear sighting groove with a ramped front blade; the exact front sight configuration should be confirmed from the photos.

Target upgrades include a wide, serrated target-style trigger. A wide-spur target-style hammer is included but not installed. The matching factory box and period instruction sheet add completeness and context to this 1970 example.
