Built on the classic 1911 platform, this Government Model is a full-size, single-action, short-recoil, locked-breech pistol chambered in .45 ACP with a standard 5-inch barrel and 7+1 capacity. It retains the Series 70 system with no firing-pin block, preserving the original trigger feel associated with this era.
The pistol wears a blued finish with polished flats and matte rounds over a steel frame and slide. Controls include a manual thumb safety and grip safety, a short solid trigger, and a wide spur checkered hammer. It has an arched mainspring housing and a smooth front strap, complemented by smooth wood grip panels with Colt medallions.
Slide features include rear vertical cocking serrations and a standard ejection port. The GI-style recoil system uses a plug and standard bushing. Sights are fixed, with a staked front blade and a square-notch rear. The barrel hood is marked "COLT .45 AUTO."
Factory markings are present: the left slide reads "COLT'S MK IV/SERIES '70 GOVERNMENT MODEL .45 AUTOMATIC CALIBER" with the Rampant Colt, and the right slide reads "COLT'S GOVERNMENT MODEL." The right side of the frame is marked "COLT'S PT. F. A. MFG. CO., HARTFORD, CONN.
U.S.A." This example is an early Series 70 with a 70G serial prefix, manufactured in the United States in 1973.
