Produced at Kokura Arsenal during 1942–1943, this Series 21 Short Rifle follows the standard Type 99 configuration with a 26-inch barrel and an internal 5-round box magazine. It uses a robust bolt-action system with an external claw extractor and includes a gas-vent hole on the receiver ring.
Markings are a key highlight. The Imperial chrysanthemum "Mum" is intact. The rifle shows the Kokura stacked-cannonball crest, the model legend "九九式," and the Series 21 mark (ナ in circle), all aligning with wartime Kokura production.
Military features include a post/blade front sight with protective ears and a tangent ladder rear sight graduated to 15 with fold-out anti-aircraft wings. The rifle retains two barrel bands, with the front band incorporating the Type 30 bayonet lug.
The hardwood stock is full length with a separate top handguard, right-side buttstock sling swivel, left-side rear barrel-band sling loop, a finger groove, and a metal buttplate. The bolt shroud safety disc is present. The dust cover is not present.
