A captive flat recoil spring assembly supports smooth cycling in the compact 3.39-inch package. Safety features include a firing pin block, trigger safety, loaded chamber indicator, cocked striker indicator, and disassembly safety.
The cold hammer-forged barrel uses polygonal rifling with a 1:9.8 in right-hand twist. This setup, combined with HK's manufacturing quality, contributes to a clean, consistent bore profile. The slide wears front and rear serrations and HK's rear charging supports for confident manipulation.
Ergonomics are a key strength: ambidextrous slide release levers, a paddle-style ambidextrous magazine release, and interchangeable backstrap and side panels allow the grip to be tailored. The textured grip panels feature a molded "VP" insert for added purchase.
