Kimber SIS Custom Series I 1911 .45 ACP, Full-Size, 5-inch Barrel, KimPro II Gray Finish
This Kimber SIS Custom Series I is a full-size .45 ACP 1911 developed in collaboration with the LAPD Special Investigation Section. It is the early commercial configuration without the Series II firing-pin safety, with the slide marked "SIS CUSTOM." Built on stainless steel with Kimber's gray KimPro II finish and thoughtful duty-focused features, this discontinued model stands out for its distinctive serrations, practical sight design, and clean execution.
Designed with input from the LAPD SIS, this model incorporates SIS-pattern front and rear cocking serrations and a flat-top, dehorned slide for confident manipulation. The fixed 3-dot sights include a rear sight with a squared front face to facilitate one-hand slide operation.
The stainless-steel frame and slide wear Kimber's gray KimPro II finish for a uniform, matte appearance. Ergonomics are addressed with an ambidextrous thumb safety, a beavertail grip safety, a beveled magazine well, a flat mainspring housing, and a front strap with vertical serrations. Dark laminated wood Kimber grip panels with a textured center provide a secure hold.
Internal features include a GI-style short guide rod with barrel bushing and an internal extractor. The pistol retains the traditional single-action 1911 operating system and a 5-inch barrel, with a 7+1 capacity. The model was discontinued circa 2009–2010 and was produced in the USA.

The SIS Custom Series I emphasizes practical carry and manipulation features that reflect its development history. The dehorned slide and frame reduce snag points, while the squared shoulder on the rear sight offers a purposeful surface for racking against a belt or barricade. The omission of the Series II firing-pin safety is consistent with this Series I configuration and is called out by the "SIS CUSTOM" slide marking.
Attention to handling continues with a beveled mag well for quicker reloads and a flat mainspring housing that maintains a classic 1911 feel. The front strap's vertical serrations and the laminated Kimber-branded grip panels add traction without being abrasive.
Controls and internals adhere to proven 1911 elements: ambidextrous thumb safety and beavertail grip safety, a GI-style short guide rod with bushing, and an internal extractor. The full-size 5-inch barrel and fixed 3-dot sights round out a configuration tailored for dependable performance.
