The Smith & Wesson Response is a 9mm AR-pattern PCC that combines a reinforced polymer receiver with a 16-inch threaded barrel and a free-float polymer M-LOK handguard. This example stands out for its FlexMag interchangeable magwell system with last-round bolt hold-open across magazine patterns, a two-piece stainless bolt, and continuous 12 o'clock Picatinny rail across the receiver and handguard. It includes two 21-round magazines and features Magpul furniture, a flat-face trigger, and a 2-position safety selector.
Introduced in 2023, the Response uses a semi-automatic blowback action and an open ejection port (no port door). It is marked "Smith & Wesson Springfield, MA, Made in U.S.A." and carries an MSRP of $799. Certain units were subject to a consumer safety alert/repair program in early 2024.

The semi-automatic blowback system and two-piece stainless bolt give the Response straightforward operation with 9mm ammunition. The open ejection port and continuous top rail provide an uncluttered upper profile across the receiver and handguard.
The 16-inch barrel is threaded and capped with a knurled thread protector. The free-float polymer M-LOK handguard and full-length 12 o'clock Picatinny rail make it simple to add compatible accessories along the top and at M-LOK slots.
The reinforced polymer receiver keeps weight down while retaining AR-style ergonomics. Controls include a right-side magazine release and a 2-position safety selector. The flat-face trigger provides a straight, consistent pull.
Magpul furniture rounds out the setup: an adjustable, collapsible MOE SL stock and a Magpul pistol grip. Length of pull is listed at 11.0 inches. The rifle is made in the United States and is roll-marked "Smith & Wesson Springfield, MA, Made in U.S.A."
