Product Description

Browning Superposed Lightning Field Grade I 12 Gauge, Belgian Made (1965) — 26.5 in Special Steel Vent-Rib Barrels, Fixed Chokes, Single Trigger

This Belgian-made Browning Superposed Lightning Field Grade I is a 12-gauge over/under built in 1965, combining the classic round-knob/long-tang field configuration with factory scroll-and-rosette engraving and blued finish. It features 26.5 in Special Steel vent-rib barrels with fixed chokes and a single front bead, and it carries the S5 serial suffix that denotes 1965 12-gauge production. As John M. Browning's final shotgun design, the Superposed remains a landmark field gun, and this Grade I Field example presents with clean bores and thoughtful original FN details.

The Lightning Field configuration brings a round-knob pistol grip, a long tang trigger guard, and a field-style forend, all in walnut with cut checkering. The single trigger and tang safety provide a straightforward, field-ready control layout. Chambers are 2 3/4 in, and capacity is 2.

The 26.5 in Special Steel barrels wear a vent rib with a single front bead and no mid-bead. Fixed chokes are present, and Belgian star choke stamps (** and ***) are marked on the flats. Automatic selective ejectors support the over/under break-action design.

Finish and embellishment are true to a Grade I Field gun: blued receiver and barrels with simple factory scroll-and-rosette motifs around the hinge pin and fences. Rollmarks include "MADE IN BELGIUM — BROWNING PATENT" and "FABRIQUE NATIONALE D'ARMES DE GUERRE — HERSTAL — BELGIQUE." Belgian Liège proof and inspection stamps appear on the barrel flats and water table, along with O and U bore stamps.

Built by FN Herstal in 1965, this Superposed reflects the enduring qualities of John M. Browning's final shotgun design. The S5 suffix confirms its year and gauge, and the overall presentation underscores the Belgian craftsmanship that defines these guns.
