Cugir Romanian SKS Model 56 7.62x39, 20.5 in Barrel, CAI Import, Detachable 12-Round Tapco Magazine
This Romanian Cugir SKS Model 56 is a Century Arms International import in 7.62x39 with a 20.5-inch barrel. It features a detachable magazine conversion with an extended magazine release and comes with a Tapco USA 12-round polymer magazine installed. The rifle retains core SKS characteristics including a milled steel receiver, in-the-white bolt and carrier, SKS-pattern iron sights, and an integral folding blade bayonet.
Condition
Overall Condition: Good condition, showing some signs of prior use and handling.
Bore Condition: Good - Clean, well-maintained, minor wear marks.
Bore Rifling: Excellent Rifling - Sharp lands and grooves.
This rifle is not all original. It has an extended magazine release and an aftermarket conversion to accept a detachable magazine. It is fitted with a Norinco replacement wood stock, identifiable by its very light color and the absence of the finger-grip stamps found on Romanian stocks; the buttstock serial "3357" is number-matched to the receiver's serial (EF3357-1958), likely a force-match. The stock has a drilled hole, and there is a screw where a rivet would typically be.
What’s Included
- Leather sling (installed)
- 1x 12-round Tapco USA SKS-pattern polymer detachable magazine (installed)
Built at Cugir in Romania, this Model 56 SKS is import-marked by Century Arms International of St. Albans, VT. The roll marks include "Cugir Romania" and "MDL 56 7.62x39," along with the Cugir triangle-with-arrow factory mark.
The rifle uses the SKS short-stroke gas piston, tilting-bolt operating system with a milled steel receiver. The bolt and bolt carrier are left in the white. Its 20.5-inch barrel ends in a plain crown with no muzzle device.
Sighting is via SKS-pattern iron sights: a hooded front post and a tangent rear ladder graduated to 1000 m. Furniture includes a wood stock and separate wood upper handguard with three ventilation cuts. The stock has right-side grasping grooves and a rear sling swivel, and the length of pull measures 12.25 inches.
An integral folding blade bayonet is mounted on the standard SKS bayonet lug. The rifle has been configured for detachable magazines and includes an extended magazine release for easier mag changes.
This example is chambered in 7.62x39 and ships with a Tapco USA 12-round polymer SKS-pattern magazine installed, providing a 12+1 capacity with the included magazine.
