The R-model configuration deletes iron sights and pairs the 22-inch sporter-contour barrel with a recessed crown, giving a clean, sightless profile ready for optics via the factory-machined integral Ruger bases. This example retains its polished blue finish on the barreled action and the classic M77 bolt with a bright body and blued pear-shaped knob.
Built in 1975 during the tang-safety M77 era, it carries the Southport, Connecticut barrel address. The safety is the two-position tang style, and feeding is through an internal box magazine with a hinged floorplate. Capacity is 4+1 in .30-06 Springfield.
The walnut stock presents crisp checkering, a black grip cap, and the red Ruger-logo recoil pad with a black spacer. Length of pull measures 13.5 inches, and front and rear sling-swivel studs are installed from the factory.
Integral Ruger scope bases are machined into the receiver, and this rifle comes with 1-inch rings already mounted, offering a straightforward path to mounting a scope of your choice. Overall fit, finish, and features align with the first-generation M77 tang-safety series known for its American manufacture and classic sporter configuration.
