The SCAR 17S uses a short-stroke gas piston with a rotating bolt and a multi-position gas regulator for standard and suppressed settings. This example retains the reciprocating left-side charging handle, reflecting the pre-NRCH configuration favored by some users for its direct feedback and manual control.
The 16.25 in barrel is cold-hammer-forged and chrome-lined with a 1:12 RH twist. A multi-port muzzle brake with patent-number marking is installed, and the barrel is threaded. The combination supports durability and consistent performance with 7.62x51 NATO.
A monolithic aluminum upper provides a rigid base with a full-length T-marked Picatinny top rail and accessory rails at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock. Polymer rail panels are installed on the fore-end rails. The polymer lower keeps weight to about 8.0 lb while maintaining strength.
The folding stock adjusts for length of pull and cheek height and includes a textured buttpad. Length of pull is adjustable from 12.0–14.5 in and is currently set to 12.0 in. Folded, the rifle measures approximately 28.5 in overall length, enhancing storage and transport options.
Folding adjustable iron sights are included, with a front post and a rear aperture featuring an adjustment drum. Capacity is 20+1, and this rifle ships with one 20-round steel magazine. Markings include FN HERSTAL BELGIUM and FN COLUMBIA SC.
