Product Description

Remington Model 742 Woodsmaster Rifle Receiver, B-Prefix, Factory Drilled & Tapped, Circa 1978–1981

This is a genuine Remington Model 742 Woodsmaster centerfire rifle receiver from the late production B-prefix block, dating to roughly 1978–1981. It retains the correct factory markings and architecture for the platform and features a top that is drilled and tapped with five scope-mount holes—four factory holes plus one additional non-factory hole. This receiver offers a period-correct foundation for a professional restoration by a qualified gunsmith.

    Condition

    Overall Condition: Poor condition.

Bore Condition: Not applicable; receiver only.

Mechanics: Will need to be reassembled/restored by a qualified gunsmith; operability cannot be verified due to rewelded internal rails.

Specific Condition Notes: The internal rails have been rewelded. The welds have produced visible discoloration on the rear of the receiver.

    What’s Included

    • Remington Model 742 Woodsmaster rifle receiver

The receiver is marked "Woodsmaster MODEL 742" on the right side and "Remington" on the left, matching the layout of factory Model 742 production. Its right-side ejection slot, two trigger-group pin holes per side, and the rear internal stock-bolt boss align with original Model 742 receiver architecture.

The top of the receiver is drilled and tapped with five scope-mount holes—four factory holes plus one additional non-factory hole—providing a correct, period setup for the model’s typical hunting-oriented configurations.

The Model 742 is a gas-operated, semi-automatic design that uses a rotating multi-lug bolt at the model level. This receiver belongs to the B-prefix serial block, placing it near the end of Model 742 production and within the circa 1978–1981 timeframe.

As noted in the condition, the internal rails have been rewelded and their operability cannot be verified. This is a gunsmith special intended for reassembly and restoration by a qualified professional.
