This pre-64 Winchester Model 88 in .308 Win was manufactured in 1955 and retains the standard 22-inch rifle configuration with a one-piece, cut-checkered walnut stock. It is outfitted with a Bausch & Lomb Balvar 8 riflescope on an externally adjustable mount and features Winchester WP proofs on the barrel and receiver ring. The rifle uses a detachable 4+1 steel box magazine and carries the classic Winchester rollmark on the barrel.

The Model 88 uses a lever-action system with a rotating, front-locking bolt and a lever-integral trigger guard, combining fast handling with a strong locking design. Chambered in .308 Win, this rifle feeds from a detachable 4+1 steel box magazine. The barrel is steel, 22 inches in length, and the rifle is finished in blued steel.
Stock furniture is a one-piece walnut design with cut, point-pattern checkering at the pistol grip and forend, and sling swivel studs are installed. A Pachmayr White Line recoil pad with spacer is fitted, setting the length of pull at 13.75 inches.
A Bausch & Lomb Balvar 8 riflescope is installed on an externally adjustable mount with coin-slot screws for windage and elevation. Iron sights are present, including a hooded front barrel sight and a rear barrel sight, giving the shooter sighting flexibility.
This pre-64, U.S.-made example bears Winchester oval WP proofs on the barrel and receiver ring. The barrel shows the Winchester rollmark: "WINCHESTER - MODEL 88 - CAL. .308 WIN - MADE IN U.S.A. - WIN. PROOF STEEL." It is the standard rifle configuration (not carbine) and retains the classic Model 88 lines in blued steel and cut-checkered walnut.
