Manufactured by Springfield Armory in 1944, this rifle aligns with wartime production and collector interest. The Springfield "S-A 12-44" barrel date and receiver drawing number "D28287-2SA" are clear, verifiable indicators of its wartime manufacture.
It uses the M1's proven gas-operated system with a rotating bolt and a long operating rod featuring an integral gas piston. The internal magazine is loaded via the included 8-round en-bloc clip, and the rifle is chambered in .30-06 with a 24-inch barrel.
The rifle retains its U.S. service configuration with a full-length hardwood stock and matching upper handguard, both oil-finished. Stock features include a straight comb, steel buttplate, sling swivels, and a stacking swivel. The steel receiver and other metal components wear a parkerized finish.
Sighting is practical, with a wing-protected front blade and a receiver-mounted aperture rear sight with windage and elevation knobs. The 13.0-inch length of pull provides a classic service-rifle fit.
