The 716i TREAD uses a direct-impingement system with a rifle-length gas system tuned for the 16 in .308 barrel. A pinned low-profile gas block, dual-ejector bolt, and forged aluminum receivers deliver a robust, duty-grade feature set in a streamlined configuration.
The carbon steel barrel is nitride-treated for corrosion resistance and wear durability, and is threaded 5/8x24 TPI with a factory multi-port muzzle brake installed. The handguard is a free-float aluminum M-LOK design with a continuous top Picatinny rail from receiver to handguard and an integrated QD sling socket.
Controls are modern and user-friendly, including an ambidextrous safety and ambidextrous magazine release. Furniture consists of a 6-position adjustable polymer stock and a textured polymer pistol grip with a storage compartment. The flat-top upper omits a forward assist and is set up for use with rail-mounted sights or optics of your choice.
Chambering is compatible with both .308 Win and 7.62×51 NATO, feeding from SR-25/AR-10 pattern magazines. Overall length is approximately 34.21–37.52 in with an unloaded weight of about 8.16 lb. The rifle bears the TREAD emblem on the handguard and receiver markings “SIG SAUER INC NEWINGTON NH USA” and “MULTI-CALIBER.”
