Produced by Sterling Armament Co. in Dagenham, England for ArmaLite Inc., this AR-180 carries its period-correct import marking and reflects the late 1970s–mid-1980s manufacturing run. Its pre-ban status stems from importation prior to the 1989 U.S. import ban, aligning it with a defined and highly followed production window.
The rifle uses the AR-18/180 operating system: a short-stroke gas piston with a rotating bolt and twin guide-rod return springs. The stamped and welded sheet-steel receiver integrates the proprietary AR-18/180 optics dovetail and a top sliding dust cover. Controls include a right-side charging handle with a knurled knob and a manual safety selector.
Core features include an 18-inch barrel with a flash suppressor, iron sights with a rear aperture and a flip-up front sight, and a capacity of 20+1. The Singlepoint OEG is mounted to the rifle’s optics dovetail using compatible mounting hardware, providing a simple, durable optic setup.
Polymer furniture includes a right-side folding stock with a hinged mechanism and rubber buttpad, a ribbed two-piece handguard with oval ventilation ports, and a black polymer pistol grip bearing the "AR-18 ARMALITE" medallion. Together, these components showcase the AR-180’s distinctive configuration from the Sterling production era.
