Built in Bulgaria by Arsenal, the SLR-96 features a milled steel receiver with a Type 3-style lightening cut and twin large cross pins, giving it the classic milled AK profile. The magazine well bears the Arsenal logo, and importer markings read "D.I.G. VA., BCH., VA." This example was manufactured in 1996.
The rifle is chambered in 7.62x39 and uses a 16.3-inch barrel. The bore is excellent, with sharp rifling and a mirror finish. A cylindrical multi-port brake/compensator is installed at the muzzle.
The furniture set includes a fixed thumbhole stock in high-gloss wood with a checkered buttplate and emblem, a wooden lower handguard, and a vented metal upper handguard/gas-tube cover. Length of pull measures 14 inches.
The rear sight leaf has been removed and replaced with a Picatinny rail section on the rear-sight base, providing a mounting surface at the rear of the receiver area; the original rear sight leaf is included. The front sight is the standard protected AK front post.
This SLR-96 accepts standard double-stack AK-pattern magazines and has a stated capacity of 30+1. The selector/safety lever is the standard AK pattern, and the bolt carrier shows matching last four digits to the receiver sequence noted on the rifle.
