The NRCH update, introduced by FN in 2021, gives this rifle dual, ambidextrous charging handles that are low-profile, non-reciprocating, and capable of forward-assist. The controls are fully ambidextrous, including the safety selector and magazine release, with an enlarged trigger guard to aid access.
Its adjustable short-stroke gas piston system features a user-adjustable gas regulator to tune the rifle to different conditions. The 16.25-inch barrel is cold hammer-forged, chrome-lined, free-floating, and medium-profile, capped with a threaded muzzle and three-prong flash hider.
A monolithic aluminum upper receiver provides a continuous MIL-STD-1913 top rail, a 6 o’clock rail, and removable side rail sections. Factory folding sights include a front sight integrated with the gas block and a folding rear aperture sight. The included Midwest Industries SCAR rail extension adds forward rail space for accessories.
The stock folds to the side, telescopes for length of pull, and includes an adjustable cheek riser. The lower is polymer, the receiver is aluminum, and both wear a factory-applied MultiCam finish. Markings include FN Columbia, SC USA with the FN oval logo and SCAR 17S caliber designation. Capacity is 20+1 with the included steel magazines.
