The Platypus retains the familiar 17.5-degree 1911 grip angle and single-action-only operation while accepting Glock-pattern G17 9mm double-stack magazines for a 17+1 capacity. The SA logo appears on the flared magazine well, and the aggressive molded grip texture promotes confident handling.
Its 5.2-inch bushingless bull barrel is threaded and ships with a thread protector. The slide is cut with forward and rear serrations and a top lightening window, and the trigger is a flat-faced, lightened design. A skeletonized commander-style hammer, ambidextrous thumb safety, and beavertail grip safety round out the 1911-style controls.
Sight alignment is fast and straightforward with a fiber-optic green front and a black square-notch rear. The dustcover carries a full-length MIL-STD-1913 accessory rail for mounting compatible lights or other rail-based accessories.
