The Model 81 update to Browning's BLR platform incorporates a rack-and-pinion lever system that drives a rotating multi-lug bolt for strong, consistent lockup. The trigger moves with the lever to prevent finger pinch during cycling, and the exposed folding hammer includes a half-cock safety position.
This rifle is chambered in .243 Win and fitted with a 20-inch barrel for a balanced, fast-handling profile. It wears adjustable open rear sights and a ramped front blade. The receiver top is cut with longitudinal anti-glare serrations and features a four-hole drilled-and-tapped pattern for scope bases.
The stock and fore-end are gloss-finished walnut. The stock is a checkered pistol-grip design with a straight comb, white-line spacer, and Browning-marked buttplate/pad. A walnut fore-end with a barrel band complements the traditional look. Length of pull is 13.75 inches.
Capacity is 4+1 with the included detachable steel box magazine. Notable touches include the blued finish throughout, a gold-colored trigger, and the Browning Buckmark on the lever base. This example dates to 1982 and represents the early-1980s Model 81 series of the BLR.
