The Model 85 combines a compact, micro-size profile with an all-steel construction and a stainless finish. Its 2-inch steel barrel and stainless steel frame and cylinder provide a durable snub configuration in .38 Special with a five-shot capacity.
Operation is double action/single action with a smooth-faced trigger and an exposed hammer featuring a checkered spur for confident manual cocking. A transfer bar safety system is built in, and there is no visible Taurus Security System key lock on the hammer.
Sighting is straightforward and robust: an integral ramped, serrated front sight pairs with a fixed square-notch rear set into a serrated topstrap. The serrations on both the front sight and topstrap help manage glare and keep the sight picture consistent.
The fluted five-shot cylinder swings out to the left and uses a star ejector for positive case extraction. The ejector rod has a knurled tip and a short front locking lug, leaving most of the rod exposed. The left side of the frame shows the Taurus bull-logo crest, and the revolver carries "TAURUS – BRASIL," "TAURUS INT. MFG. MIAMI, FLA.," and "MADE IN BRAZIL" markings.
Factory-style checkered hardwood round-butt grips with gold Taurus medallions are installed. A spare Taurus one-piece rubber finger-groove grip with the Taurus emblem is included, along with the mounting stirrup, offering an alternate grip option.
