Smith & Wesson Model 39-2 9mm, Bright Nickel, 4-inch, DA/SA, 8+1, 1979–1980 Production
This Smith & Wesson Model 39-2 is a first-generation S&W 9mm autoloader in a bright nickel configuration with a carbon-steel slide over an aluminum-alloy frame. Built in the 1979–1980 timeframe (A-prefix range), it features the 39-2 engineering update with a bushingless 4-inch barrel, DA/SA operation, and single-stack 8+1 capacity. Adjustable target sights, a matte anti-glare top rib, and classic checkered walnut grips round out a well-sorted American-made service-style pistol.

The Model 39-2 represents Smith & Wesson's foundational 9mm platform, incorporating the 39-2 update that deletes the separate barrel bushing and refines internal geometry. It operates on a recoil-operated, locked-breech tilting-barrel system and offers an 8+1 single-stack capacity in a full-size profile with a 4-inch barrel.
Construction pairs a carbon-steel slide with an aluminum-alloy frame, both finished in bright nickel. The slide top features a matte anti-glare rib with rear vertical serrations and contrasting dark small parts for a clean sight picture and purposeful control surfaces.
Controls include DA/SA, hammer-fired operation with a slide-mounted safety/decocker and a magazine disconnect safety. The left-side magazine release and spurred, checkered hammer support confident manipulation. Target-style sights consist of a serrated ramp front and a micrometer-style adjustable rear.
Produced in the United States during 1979–1980 (A-prefix range), this 39-2 reflects the lineage that informed later S&W 439/539/639 and 59-series designs and served as the basis for the U.S. Navy's suppressed Mk 22 Mod 0 "Hush Puppy."
This example comes with three 8-round 39-series steel magazines, plus a nylon holster with retention strap and a nylon double magazine pouch with flap closures.
