The Platypus 17 pairs a steel slide with a 7075-T6 aluminum monolithic frame to keep weight down while retaining 1911 ergonomics. The frame wears an aggressive machined grip texture, an oversize funnel-style magazine well with the SA logo, and an enlarged magazine release for positive reloads. The magwell and select controls feature contrasting accent finishes that stand out against the black base finish.
The slide is cut with both front and rear cocking serrations and features a lightening/inspection window. Sights include a green fiber-optic front and a plain black rear for a clean, daylight-bright sight picture. A full-length, multi-slot Picatinny accessory rail on the dustcover supports common weapon lights and accessories.
