Product Description

    H&R Model 176 10 Gauge Magnum Single-Shot Shotgun, 36" Barrel, 3 1/2" Chamber, Full Choke (1977)

The Harrington & Richardson Model 176 is a U.S.-made 10 Gauge Magnum single-shot from the late 1970s, with this example dated to 1977 by its AR serial prefix. It features a 36" barrel with a fixed Full choke and a 3 1/2" chamber, a simple brass bead front sight, and classic H&R blued/case-colored metalwork. Clear factory legends and the U.S. Patent No. 3,988,848 marking add period-correct detail for buyers who value original markings and configuration.

This Model 176 is built as a straightforward break-action with an external hammer and a top-tang opening lever. The barrel is plain (no rib) and marked "MODEL 176 10 GA. MAGNUM 3 1/2" CHAMBER FULL CHOKE," confirming its 10-gauge 3 1/2" chambering and Full choke constriction. Capacity is one round.

The receiver’s right side carries "HARRINGTON & RICHARDSON, INC. GARDNER, MASS. MADE IN U.S.A. U.S. PATENT NO.

3,988,848," aligning it with H&R’s Gardner, Massachusetts production. The break-open single barrel shows an extractor/ejector cut and uses a top-tang lever for opening.

The stock set is hardwood with an uncheckered straight comb and slight pistol grip. An H&R-branded ventilated rubber recoil pad with a white-line spacer completes the butt, and the length of pull measures 14.5". The shotgun retains its traditional blued/case-colored finish and bead sight setup for a clean, purpose-built field configuration.

Key functional notes include the 3 1/2" chamber and fixed Full choke, a 36" plain barrel, and the external-hammer, single-shot action—an uncomplicated, robust layout that matches the Model 176’s intended role.
