The Model 742 Woodsmaster is a semi-automatic, gas-operated design with a rotating bolt that locks into a barrel extension. Its short-stroke gas system uses twin action bars to drive reliable cycling. This configuration, along with the standard 22-inch barrel and step-top receiver profile, defines the Woodsmaster series.
The rifle wears a walnut stock and matching fore-end. The stock features a pistol-grip profile, checkering, white-line spacers, and a black fore-end tip, plus sling swivel studs for easy sling attachment. The detachable box magazine provides a 4+1 capacity in .30-06.
Optics are already in place. The receiver is drilled and tapped and fitted with a single-piece Weaver-style rail/base and rings, and it comes with a mounted Bushnell Banner 3-9x40 1" SFP Duplex scope. This turnkey setup lets you head straight to the range with clear, adjustable magnification.
Production context adds useful provenance. The Woodsmaster line was produced from 1960 to 1980, with approximately 1.43 million rifles made across all variants. The B-prefix serial block places this example in the late 1970s to early 1980s window. An ED 10 barrel stamp is present, and the rifle was made in the United States.
