This carbine follows the Sharps pattern with a vertical sliding breechblock operated by a lever that also serves as the trigger guard. It is a single-shot percussion breechloader with an external side hammer and single trigger, marked "BLACK POWDER ONLY" for use with appropriate loads.
The 22-inch round blued steel barrel pairs with iron sights: a front sight up front and a barrel-mounted folding ladder rear sight with a slider for elevation. This setup supports precise aiming while retaining the historically correct profile.
Construction emphasizes period-correct materials and finishes. The receiver, hammer, lever, and carbine buttplate are color case-hardened steel, while the stock and forend are walnut with a single barrel band. Length of pull measures 13.75 inches, and the carbine is configured in a full-size format.
Authentic markings include Italian proof stamps with the 'PN' black-powder proof and the Taylor's & Co. VA - ITALY import mark. A sling bar with saddle ring on the left side completes the classic cavalry carbine configuration.
