The SIG 556 Classic uses a semi-automatic, long-stroke gas piston system with a rotating bolt and a two-position adjustable gas regulator. This setup is designed for consistent operation while keeping fouling away from the receiver area.
The 16 inch barrel is threaded and fitted with an A2-style flash suppressor. Sights include a front sight on the gas block and an integral flip-up rear sight mounted in the receiver rail, providing a ready sighting solution out of the box.
The Classic configuration features a Swiss-style two-piece polymer handguard and a side-folding, skeletonized polymer stock with a fixed length of pull. A ribbed polymer pistol grip provides a secure hold.
The receiver assembly combines a stamped steel upper with a 7075-T6 aluminum lower. An integral 1913 Picatinny top rail offers straightforward mounting for optics or accessories, and the right-side reciprocating charging handle supports direct manipulation.
Controls include an ambidextrous safety selector. The rifle accepts standard AR-15/M16 magazines and comes with a 30-round SureFeed STANAG magazine.
