The M&P15-22 delivers familiar AR-15 ergonomics in a .22 LR package, featuring AR-style controls with a functional bolt catch and last-round bolt hold-open. The charging system uses an AR-style T-handle, and the platform omits an ejection-port dust cover while incorporating a fixed case deflector.
Its 16-inch carbon steel barrel is threaded 1/2x28 and fitted with a birdcage flash hider. The polymer quad-rail handguard provides a full-length top Picatinny rail with accessory rails at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions for mounting as needed.
The rifle uses polymer upper and lower receivers with steel inserts to reduce weight while reinforcing key areas. The 6-position M4-style stock provides an approximate length of pull from 10 to 13.25 inches, with overall length spanning roughly 30.5 to 33.75 inches. Unloaded weight is about 5.4 lb.
