Designed and built in the United States, the SMG-45 uses LWRCI's proprietary short-recoil/delayed-blowback system to moderate .45 ACP recoil and support suppressor use. The action is paired with a forward, non-reciprocating, reversible side charging handle that folds when not in use and is installed on the left side as configured.
The 8.5-inch barrel is cold-hammer-forged from CrMoV steel and treated with a salt-bath nitride finish for durability. It features 6-groove rifling with a 1:16 RH twist and is threaded .578-28 with a factory thread protector. This configuration provides a rugged, precise barrel built for high round counts.
Controls are fully ambidextrous, including a paddle-style magazine release and a manual safety with pictogram selector markings. The pistol wears a folding brace with a left-side hinge, improving storage and transport without sacrificing quick deployment.
The LWRCI Modular Rail System handguard integrates a full-length, T-marked 1913 Picatinny top rail and an M-LOK-style lateral interface with bolt-on textured panels and a detachable 6 o'clock hand stop secured with a screw. The aluminum upper/handguard assembly and polymer lower receiver keep weight to about 5.9 lb, with an overall length of approximately 15.25 inches folded and 26–28 inches unfolded. Capacity is 25+1 using the included U.S.-made UMP-pattern polymer magazines.
