Maadi ARM 7.62x39 Steyr Import (1982) Pre-Ban AKM-Pattern Rifle with Threaded Muzzle and Slant Compensator
This 1982 Maadi ARM is a single-year Steyr (Secaucus, N.J.) import in true pre-ban configuration with a threaded muzzle and correct slant compensator. It features the classic AKM-pattern stamped receiver with magazine well dimples, a ribbed top cover, and early-import details like the absence of a left-side optics rail. Egyptian-pattern wood furniture, a brown phenolic pistol grip, and Steyr and Maadi factory markings round out a configuration that is both correct and desirable to collectors.

Imported by Steyr of Secaucus, N.J., this ARM is part of the single-year S-prefix run from 1982, giving it clear provenance and collector appeal. The receiver is correctly marked "ARM SEMI AUTOMATIC RIFLE / CALIBER 7.62 x 39 / MAADI COMPANY / MADE IN EGYPT," with the STEYR import stamp on the receiver.
The rifle uses a stamped AKM-pattern receiver in a glossy black finish, complete with magazine well dimples and a ribbed top cover. Consistent with early ARM imports, there is no left-side optics rail. The long-stroke gas piston system and rotating bolt provide the classic AKM operation in a semi-automatic configuration.
Barrel length is 16.3 in and factory features include a threaded muzzle with the correct slant compensator. Sights are the protected front post and an adjustable tangent rear leaf graduated 1–10 (to 1000 m), matching the period-correct setup for this model.
Furniture is Egyptian pattern: a wooden lower handguard with palm-swell, wooden upper handguard, a fixed wood stock with a trapdoor buttplate, and a brown phenolic pistol grip with molded checkering. A cleaning rod is fitted under the barrel, and the stock’s trapdoor holds the included AK-pattern cleaning kit.
