The Model 170 Series B pairs a pump-action mechanism with the .30-30 cartridge, a rare combination among sporting rifles. It uses a tubular magazine with a 3+1 capacity and features right-side ejection. The rifle has the standard 22 in barrel and an under-barrel magazine tube secured by a barrel/magazine band.
Furniture is classic wood with a pistol-grip stock, cut checkering, a raised comb, and a black buttplate. The grooved wooden forend provides positive purchase for cycling. Length of pull measures 14.25 in, and the metalwork wears a blued finish.
Sighting equipment includes factory provisions for iron sights. The receiver is drilled and tapped, and this example carries two-piece scope bases with rings and a Bushnell Sportview 3-9x32mm scope already installed.
Manufactured in the United States, this Series B rifle is roll-marked on the barrel with the maker, model, series, and caliber. It represents Savage’s only centerfire pump-action rifle and the standard rifle-length configuration, distinct from the shorter 170C carbine.
