Built at the Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (Izhmash) in Russia, this Saiga carries authentic Russian proof/acceptance marks and receiver legends, along with the Kalashnikov USA, Port St. Lucie, FL import stamp. A "99" year stamp adjacent to the serial indicates 1999 production. Selector markings are "S O F."
The rifle operates on the AK-pattern long-stroke gas piston with a rotating bolt and uses a stamped-steel receiver with riveted trunnions and a smooth top cover. It retains standard AKM-pattern iron sights, including a standard AK-pattern front sight and rear tangent sight. The muzzle is plain and unthreaded with a crowned end; no device is installed.
This example was converted from its original sporter configuration and is outfitted with a Tapco G2 fire-control group for a clean, consistent trigger, a Magpul MOE AK pistol grip, and a Magpul skeletonized stock. Length of pull measures 12.6 inches.
The SGM Tactical polymer handguard provides top, side, and bottom Picatinny rail sections for accessory mounting, and a vertical foregrip is installed. Chambered in 7.62x39 with a 20.5-inch barrel, it feeds from standard AK-pattern magazines; one 30-round steel magazine is included.
This rifle is a pre-ban example, imported prior to the 2014 U.S. sanctions that halted Russian Saiga imports, combining Russian manufacture with a well-executed, feature-rich conversion.
